During World War II, Currahee Mountain became the proving ground for one of the most celebrated units in U.S. military history: Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division—the unit that would become known as the “Band of Brothers.” Stationed at nearby Camp Toccoa, these volunteer paratroopers trained intensively to prepare for the unique demands of airborne combat—jumping behind enemy lines and operating under extreme conditions.

Led by commanders like Colonel Robert Sink, Major Dick Winters, and Captain Herbert Sobel, Easy Company ran the steep three-mile climb up Currahee Mountain daily. The mountain forged their endurance, discipline, and trust—qualities that would carry them through Normandy, Operation Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge.
